More than 1,000 companies from 20 countries were represented at the trade fair held every three years. 5,000 employees staffed the stands of the companies, greeting some 150,000 visitors in attendance at the 10-day fair. Frank Vercruysse, General Manager of Brenntag Export, comments: “Brenntag Export has been doing extensive business in Central and West Africa for some time. A well-organized trade fair such as Promote in Yaoundé, is an outstanding opportunity to establish numerous fruitful business contacts in a short time. Our participation definitely helped promote awareness of Brenntag in Africa. We are pleased to have already signed the first contracts as a result.” The African market is of considerable importance for Brenntag Export. Philippe Hick, Brenntag Area Manager for Central Africa, remarks: “We have maintained business relationships for many years in the countries of Central and West Africa in particular - Senegal, Mali, Guinea, Togo, Benin, Cameroon, Congo, Nigeria, Ghana, Gabon and Angola. The region of Central and West Africa is rich in natural resources, including crude oil, bauxite, cobalt, copper, diamonds, tin, iron, natural gas, manganese, nickel, gold, titanium, uranium and zinc. A wide range of chemicals are needed to tap these reserves of raw materials.” Frank Vercruysse and Philippe Hick were also pleased to greet countless potential new customers at the Brenntag stand. Visitors included high-ranking persons such as Louis Paul Motaze, Minister of Economy and Planning in Cameroon, who showed great interest in Brenntag’s portfolio of products and services, and Michel Tilemans, Belgian ambassador for the C.E.M.A.C zone (Cameroon, Congo, Gabon, Equatorial Guinea, Central African Republic and Chad).
